Somayeh “Sue” Talebzadeh Farooji, an Inorganic Chemistry Ph.D. candidate in Dr. Knight's research group, has won a DTRA (Defense Threat Reduction Agency) competitive travel award to attend the 2017 Chemical and Biological Defense Science & Technology conference to be held November 28-30 in Long Beach, California. The CBD S&T conference is one of the most important annual events in the chemical and biological defense community. Sue will present results of her Ph.D. research project which is focused on the catalytic degradation of organophosphorus compounds which are analogs of chemical warfare agents such as Sarin and VX. Research in the Knight group involves the study of new laser-mediated catalytic transformations using core-shell plasmonic nanoparticles for defense applications.
