RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr. Baloga is interested in chemical education and, as the undergraduate chemistry coordinator, is currently involved in the restructuring of the general chemistry and organic chemistry laboratory curricula at Florida Tech.

ONGOING RESEARCH

  • The design of general and organic chemistry laboratory experiments promoting higher-order cognitive skills.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dr. Baloga's dissertation work has been in the area of molecular recognition.  Her synthetic experience includes aromatic, heterocyclic chemistry, carbohydrate chemistry, and peptide chemistry.  She was a Merck Postdoctoral Fellow at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.  At CSU, she gained new experience in molecular biology techniques while working on a peptide phage library project.

While at the University of Illinois, Dr. Baloga, along with four other graduate students, co-founded an educational outreach program, called Encouraging Tomorrow's Chemist (ETC).  The program's objective was to provide a means for junior high and high school students in the local area to perform laboratory experiments that otherwise would not be available due to lack of funds and resources.  She also developed the course and laboratory curriculum for organic chemistry at Front Range Community College while residing in Fort Collins, CO.

Dr. Baloga is the faculty advisor for the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega.  She was awarded the Florida Tech Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award for the 1998-1999 academic year.
