The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree is a post baccalaureate program for individuals who are either current teachers with three-year temporary teaching certificates or those planning to enter the teaching field. Through this program, students earn a graduate degree while also completing course work required for alternative professional teacher certification in Florida.
This program enhances the effectiveness of new professional educators by including courses such as Reading in the Content Area and Multilingual/ Multicultural Education and assessing competencies aligned with the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices.
We also offer the Graduate Certificate in Teaching for students seeking an alternative route to professional certification in Florida as a subset of the M.A.T. degree program.
To accommodate the schedules of our students all classes are offered in the late afternoon, evening, or during the summer.
Application fees are waived and no GRE is required.
Florida teachers enrolled in the program are eligible for one-third off regular tuition.
An applicant must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in mathematics or science, or in an area in which state certification is sought.
For general admissions requirements, please refer to the Graduate Information and Regulations section of the catalog.
The program can be completed on a part-time or full-time basis, and requires a minimum of 30 credit hours (10 courses).
