Master of Education

in Elementary Science Education

Designed for the elementary school teacher, this program focuses on theory and practice while providing professional development applicable to the elementary classroom.  This program, offered in the evenings and
summer, is designed for career professionals who already hold a bachelor’s degree and are currently teaching in grades 1–6. Applicants
should have a GPA of 3.0 or better for regular admission and submit a résumé, statement of objectives and three letters of recommendation.

The degree of Master of Education in Elementary Science Education is conferred on students who successfully complete the 30 credit hour curriculum.

The program includes courses, among others, in Theories and Trends in Education, Current Topics in Science Education, and Content and Methods in Science Education for the Elementary Grades. Students complete a case study in science education or conduct a non-thesis research project for their capstone experience.

The curriculum is designed for the part-time student. To accommodate teachers’ busy schedules, classes are offered in the late afternoon, evening and during the summer.

Florida teachers enrolled in the program are eligible for one-third off regular tuition for all their courses.

Students in this program will benefit from the department’s new, on-campus science education laboratory facility.
